I couldn’t believe when I asked Elle Kennedy if she could answer a few questions for the blog and she said YES. Never mind that it happened when she was super busy promoting her latest novel The Goal. I can’t begin to explain how honored I am to share this interview with Elle Kennedy, the freaking Queen of Romance. I’m a romance author myself and I want to be her when I grow up.
So here it is:
1. With the Off-Campus series, you became the queen of New Adult romance (in my opinion anyway). How did the idea for the series come about?
Honestly, as funny as it sounds, it was sort of a fluke. Sometimes I like to write books “just for fun”, which is how Off-Campus started. I originally had no intention of publishing The Deal until prompted by my friends who read it.
2. What’s your secret to write steamy sex scenes? Do you blush at all?
I don’t really blush, but I do occasionally still giggle! I don’t really know how they come to life… I think that we all have these fantasies in our heads—I just put them down on paper sometimes 😉
3. Who’s your favorite character in the series and why?
It keeps changing! I was totally #TeamGarrett, but then I wrote The Score and Dean was just so cocky and persistent, and his character just won me over! Now… now it might be Tucker.
4. After The Goal, can we expect more books in the Off-Campus series?
I haven’t really decided on this just yet. I guess we’ll have to wait and see. I have so many book ideas kicking around!
5. What’s your writing routine?
I don’t really have a routine. I mean, I wake up, chase my dog Morgan around the house a couple times… but I don’t have a set routine when it comes to writing. I usually set daily word goals for myself to stay focused.
6. Pantser or Plotter?
A bit of both? For my contemporary books, I usually have some main scenes I want to write, or certain events in mind, but a lot of it just happens as it happens. For my romantic suspense titles, I write very detailed outlines before I start the book.
7. What book(s) are you currently reading?
*sigh* Lately I haven’t had much time to read anything! This year has been sort of crazy between my own books, and co-writing young adult with Jen Frederick as Erin Watt, and hockey romances with Sarina Bowen. Maybe ask me in November?
8. What project(s) are you currently working on?
Most of my focus lately has been on my joint pseudonym Erin Watt. Right now we’re putting the finishing touches on Twisted Palace, as well as a couple other books for early next year. And I have my own projects, but I’m keeping those super-secret for now.
9. Who is your go-to author(s)?
Danielle Steel, Stephen King, and Iris Johansen. I have a crazy amount of their books!
– Thank you so much, Elle!
